first pictures from 2014 session in Rukwa GR
Here follows a first selection of images captured during the 2014 camera trap survey conducted in the northern part of Rukwa Game Reserve. The same 4 grids of 100 sq. km coverd in 2012 were covered in 2014, but with 36 cameras per grid instead of 12 per grid in 2012.. Not all the recorded species are presented but it represents a first good "picture" of the results!
What appears to be the most common large ungulate species in Rukwa, the Sable antelope (Hippotragus niger).
In its category the common duiker (Sylvicapra grimmia) is the most frequently pictured small antelope species..

Hartebeest (A. b. lichtensteini)
Buffalos (Syncerus caffer) A good camera placing choice...
Bushpig, (Potamochoerus larvatus)
Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
Elephants (Loxodonta africana) are still recorded, despite less frequently than in the 2012 survey, and mostly by night.
Among afrotherians, the aardvark (Orycteropus afer) was catptured several times...
