Camera traps and birds
Even if the camera are set up to capture images of medium to large mammals, birds are frequently captured as well, particularly large ground active species like helmeted guineafowls (Numida meleagris) and Southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri).
More rarely, birds of smaller size as francolins, like this Hildebrandt's francolin (Francolinus hildebrandti), or dove (Streptopelia sp.) are photo – captured.
Birds of prey are equally captured- daily and by night! - but their identification remain difficult… If you are able to identify any of the species on the following pictures, thanks in advance to contact us! hausser@adap.ch
Night-active species like nightjars can be captured on open space, or tracks...
Sometimes cameras even capture image of insects like this butterfly
