Blue duiker in the miombo woodlands
During the rain season 2012 - 2013, the cameras captured for the first time a new species, the blue duiker, Philantoba monticola. The species was known from the dry forest of the shores of Tanganyka Lake (Mahale NP), but was not recorded in the dryer miombo woodlands of Western Tanzania. The species seems strictly habitat dependent as it has been captured only in thick riverine gallery forests. In favourable habitat it seems quite common as the species has been captured in 5 different locations during the rain season.
